Duties include: Supervising the narcotic & controlled substances department on you respective shift and overseeing all transactions therein; resolving any issues that manifest within the various receiving, picking, auditing, and shipping processes; ensuring that all procedures within this department adhere to McKesson SOPs and Health Canada regulations; and providing support to the facility Qualified Person In Charge (QPIC) and Regulatory Officer (RO) as required. The AQPIC will assume responsibility for all transactions in the absence of the QPIC.
AQPIC must hold a Bachelor of Science degree from a Canadian accredited Institution with a major in one of the following: chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacy, microbiology, chemical engineering, medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. A minimum of 1/3 of courses taken in the program must be in a relevant area. A degree will be verified with the Health Canada Office of Controlled Substances.
Section A – Specific Responsibilities
Read and understand Health Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Narcotic Control Regulations, Food and Drug Regulations, and Benzodiazepines and Other Targeted Substances Regulations. Ensure compliance with these requirements and any other guidelines implemented by the Office of Controlled Substances.
Review unusual order quantities and short/approve orders using your discretion.
Process narcotic signatures and contact customers who are overdue.
Maintain records for signature control, shipping, receiving, and inventory control.
Process customer returns, vendor returns, and items for destruction.
Prepare detailed discrepancy investigations for all losses/overages as well as assisting customer service in resolving customer claims.
Review and authorize narcotic and cytotoxic RFCs
Assist RO with various projects including temperature profiling, SOP training, and compliance issues.
Monitor and replenish supplies needed to run the department.
Shadow the supervisor on your respective shift and substitute as supervisor as required.
