Job Summary: Position MSC as a pharmacy destination of choice

The Marketing and Brand Manager is responsible for the management of McKesson Canada’s Retail Banner Services Medicine Shoppe pharmacy brand. The Manager is the steward of these brands. He/she maintains a vigilant eye on the competitive landscape develops measurable strategies and plans to further strengthen the positioning of these brands in the marketplace. The Manager recommends and executes comprehensive marketing plans to increase comp sales as well as generate increased store traffic, manage the implementation of activities that will increase script count and increase front shop sales. Finally, the Manager plans and delivers communications to all internal and external banner brand target audiences. The Marketing Specialist/Graphic Designer will report to the Manager. The Manager will report to the Sr Manager of Marketing Communications, Retail Banner Services. The Manager is based in Edmonton (AB).

Key Responsibilities

The Manager:

  • Owns consumer, patient and customer insights that help prioritize and drive marketing plan activities

  • Creates and maintains banner brand narrative and visual identity guidelines

  • Develops the banners’ annual marketing plan and budget

  • Conceives and oversees the development of marketing activities and tools:

  • Deploys national advertising campaigns and promotions

  • Deliverslocal marketing programs to members when required

  • Supports the branding and marketing of events

  • Supports the roll-out of pharmacy services programs

  • Supports the roll-out of store operations priorities

  • Directs the shared services team in the development of tools to support the implementation of the annual banner marketing plan and its communication activities

  • Maintains vigilant eye on marketing activities of competitors

  • Benchmarks banner practices to those of competition and best in class retailers

  • Develops brand health score cards

  • Audits and measures performance of banner campaigns, activities and tools

  • Work in cross functional team and supports the Sr Marketing Manager on all needed projects

  • Ad hoc projects


  • An undergraduate degree in relevant field

  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience, preferably with some in retail

  • Knowledge of the competitive landscape in the community pharmacy space

  • Superior analytical skills, particularly in the areas of strategic, financial and marketing program ROI analysis

  • Proven track record of leveraging all forms of brand expression

  • Proven track record at successfully managing agency partners

  • Comfortable in working in a shared services environment

  • Strong communication skills
