Current Need

Reporting to the Director, Sourcing & Procurement at McKesson, the Category Specialist will support the Enterprise and Technology Sourcing organizations by managing tactical sourcing initiatives (<$500K). The Category Specialist will be expected to lead the end-to-end sourcing process for assigned projects, build relationships with suppliers and business stakeholders, and drive incremental value for the business.

Position Description

  • Support the Enterprise & Technology Sourcing teams in achieving sourcing objectives by leading tactical sourcing events

  • Engage in End to End tactical RFP Execution, Management, and Analytics

  • Gather and interpret relevant data to assess costs, productivity, demand patterns, etc.

  • Contribute to post-contract sourcing delivery success (savings, compliance, buying channel optimization) related to assigned sourcing projects

  • Combine solution results with graphics to create presentations and reports for reporting both inside and outside of McKesson Enterprise Sourcing and Business Optimization

  • Provide Actionable Savings, Spend, and Compliance Insight

  • Ensure that legal terms in contracts are in line with category and procurement objectives

  • Support Wave Planning / Pipeline Process

Minimum Requirements

3 years experience in areas such as product management, purchasing, marketing/sales, and or finance

Critical Skills

  • 2 years of relevant sourcing or contract negotiation experience

  • 1-2 years creating a business or project plans

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

  • Experience creating or interoperating financial proposals.

  • Experience in developing project plans and presenting business cases to Senior Leaders

  • Understanding of major sourcing processes, supplier and customer interface

  • Excellent analytical skills; ability to research and make efficient use of resources to achieve effective business results

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with e-sourcing tools, Ariba preferred

  • Experience in reverse auctions preferred.


4-year degree in related field, preferably in a business or technical discipline
