Current Need

This position will report to the Director of Corp FP&A with a dotted line reporting relationship to specific senior leaders within the corporate functions he/she will support.

This individual will be responsible to oversee and maintain the financial management of the functional departments. They will manage important finance activities such as the annual planning process, the annual strategic plan process, the monthly forecast process, as well as monthly results review. When necessary, this individual will work with his/her business partners throughout the year to develop gap closure plans to ensure the team is achieving its annual plan objectives. This individual should be “looking around corners” to help the team identify financial opportunities and risks ahead of them. They should compile key department metrics and report on them monthly. Executive presence is important as this individual will present to a variety of executives and corporate leaders. This individual should be firmly embedded within the department teams and should be considered critical to their success. He/she should have proven experience building and maintaining solid business partnerships. They should be assertive, pro-active and self-driven. Due to the confidential nature of the work, this person must display appropriate sensitivity and be of unquestionable integrity.

Position Description

Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing the control of the budget. Manages the activities of the financial analyst staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control. Monitors division and department adherence to approved budget.

Monthly forecast consolidation and variance reporting – Responsible to work closely with the team to provide visibility to their progress to plan and variances that may arise throughout the year. Using this information, they will work with the team to develop accurate forecasts for the remainder of the year. When unfavorable gaps to plan are identified, this individual will work closely with their business partners to determine opportunities to close the gaps with other initiatives.

As much as possible automating the reporting process, so more time can be spent understanding the drivers behind the variances and working to solve any problems identified. It is very important for this individual to understand the strategic drivers of the business (understand how the business actually works) and clearly highlight when there are areas that could become derailers or opportunities to the financial results. Additionally, they will be responsible to ensure any allocation variances are clearly explained and communicated to the affected Business Units regularly.

Annual planning process – Responsible to prepare the annual operating plan for the department in partnership with department leadership and corporate finance. When new investments are requested by the team, work closely with them to develop a business case/ROI that supports the investments requested.

Annual strategic (long-range) plan process– Assist the team in the formulation of its overall strategic direction and coordinate the annual strategic plan process. When new investments are requested by the team, work closely with the teams to develop a business case/ROI that supports the investments requested.

Executive presentations and other ad hoc analysis as required – Support business partners with quarterly or annual report outs on their operational & financial results as well as other ad hoc requests that arise.

Minimum Requirements

5 years finance or accounting experience including 2 years managerial experience

  • Planning and Priority Setting: Demonstrate an ability to set objectives and goals and organize work appropriately to meet and exceed goals. Possess strong organizational and time management skills

  • Communications: Demonstrates strong listening, written and oral communications skills

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of Hyperion Planning or HFM a plus

  • Able to contribute value add ideas/opportunities to drive business results

  • Good communicator (both verbally and in print form)

  • Experience with financial modeling/development of ROIs & Business Cases

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and other web based applications

  • Experience working in a large, matrixed institutional setting

  • Experience in the healthcare industry preferred
