Director Specialty Pharmacy Operations

Position Description

The Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services plays a key role in the success and growth of the company. This role is responsible for all areas of pharmacy services, including the leadership of pharmacy staff, ensuring regulatory and contractual compliance, ongoing quality improvement of the operations, managing personnel budget, financial performance management and personnel development and performance management. The ideal candidate is a well-spoken, organized energetic, enthusiastic and optimistic leader with the ability to work collaboratively with team members, other areas of the Biologics team, patients, providers and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pharmacy Services

 Drive corporate initiatives within Pharmacy Services

 Evaluate current people, processes and technology for efficiency and productivity

 Assist in business development opportunities as needed

 Leads clinical staff in the development and implementation of clinical models to monitor and manage side-effects, improve compliancy to therapy and improve treatment outcomes

 Oversees product procurement and inventory management processes

 Responsible for pharmacy personnel training initiatives

 Knowledgeable in all aspects of pharmacy software including billing

Personnel Management

 Provides oversight, leadership and mentoring to all pharmacy personnel

 Responsible for personnel performance management

 Take initiative in providing managers and all employees with personal and professional development opportunities

Regulatory and Contractual Compliance

 Responsible for compliance with Boards of Pharmacy regulations

 Responsible for in-state and out-of-state Board of Pharmacy licensure

 Responsible for maintaining compliancy to all federal programs, payors, HIPAA, etc.

 Responsible for coordinating and monitoring Medicaid and Medicare guidelines as they pertain to prescription dispensing

 Stays abreast of pharmacy issues/legislation; implements changes when necessary

Financial Management

 Manages budget for pharmacy services and allocates resources accordingly

Professional

• Meets or exceeds current CE requirements pursuant to Board of Pharmacy Laws

• Maintains an attitude of constant learning and ensures self-education within the pharmacy oncology arena

• Attend conferences and report topics discussed at staff meetings

Minimum Requirements

8 years of pharmacy experience including 5 years managerial experience

Critical Skills

7 years or more post-graduate experience in pharmacy operations, clinical oversight, and patient care preferred

• Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy

• Current and unrestricted license in good standing in the state of North Carolina

• Ability to apply for additional state licensures as needed

• Licensed in the state of North Carolina to practice pharmacy

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Thorough knowledge of inventory management, pharmaceutical receiving/shipping operations, and state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services. Proficient in the use of new medications and technology. Detail oriented with excellent computer and communication skills.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Working knowledge of computers and word processing skills

• Working knowledge of sterile technique and other quality control issues

• Ability to effectively utilize reference materials

• Optional: Pharm D and/or Board Certification

Education

Bachelors Pharmacy or PharmD; Must be registered pharmacist in good standing in North Carolina with appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.

Certifications/Licensure

Bachelors Pharmacy or PharmD; Must be registered pharmacist in good standing in North Carolina with appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
