Position Description

McKesson Specialty Pharmacy Solutions provides commercial and non-commercial pharmacy solutions through an innovative centers of excellence model allowing McKesson to provide patients in all fifty states and Puerto Rico with access to life-saving, complex or chronic condition therapies. With pharmacy locations in Cary, NC, Irving, TX and Louisville, KY, MSPS works with biopharmaceutical, payer and provider partners to ensure that patients can access the drugs they need regardless of cost or other barriers while receiving excellent clinical care regardless of whether they are receiving their treatment in or out of a physician’s office.

Position Overview

The Vice President, Specialty Pharmacy Operations provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the business segment has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. Drawing on clinical experience, this position collaborates with our healthcare partners to streamline the path to adoption and product access; supporting patients on their path to better health. The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by business objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for driving the company to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives through Operational Excellence.

  • Relentless in continuous improvement methodologies and practices that improve the efficiency and harmonization of all pharmacy operations.

  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes internal and external. Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the business segment.

  • Operationalize the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.

  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of our organization.

  • Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract, recruit and retain required members of the senior operations team; provide mentoring as a cornerstone to the management career development program.

  • Assist, as required, from acquisition due diligence through complete organization integration meeting and exceeding all operational goals.

  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.

  • Represent the segment with internal and external clients, and colleagues from across the McKesson Enterprise.

Minimum Requirements

Typically requires 15 years of professional experience and 10 years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

Critical Skills

  • Pharmacy leadership

  • Experience leading multiple sites

  • Experience in Specialty & Mail Order Pharmacy Operations

Travel

Up to 60% travel to three core pharmacy operations sites (North Carolina, Irving, Louisville)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.

  • At least eight years of strong operational experience with an additional 5 years in a Sr. management role.

  • Six Sigma or process improvement experience a plus

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in related field

  • Pharmacy management background

Additional Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing multi-function organization.

  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning.

  • Proven people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.

  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission.

  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
