Position Description

Patient Account Representative will be responsible for maintaining professional, courteous and effective communication with patients regarding the patient billing questions and concerns. Qualified candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, advanced computer literacy, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Under the direction of the Reimbursement Manager, candidates will be responsible for reviewing and understanding the reimbursement information on the patient ledger and be able to explain to the patient why they have a financial obligation and resolve the open balances via collection of payment in full or payment arrangement/negotiation.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Answers inbound calls and routes to correct department.

  • Responds to interdepartmental inquires include fieldnurses.

  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professionalmanner when a patient has a financial obligation to resolve.

  • Assists patients with understanding patient statementinformation.

  • Reviews patient A/R reports for unpaid patientbalances.

  • Updates amount to collect for scheduled infusiontherapy patients.

  • Updates and maintains detailed notes of patientcommunication in patient ledger.

  • Working knowledge of both government and commercialinsurance benefits to include deductibles, copays and out ofpocket/coinsurance.

  • Ability to counsel patient on financial responsibility,collect payment and/or set-up payment arrangement if needed.

  • Reviews financial waiver applications based on internalcriteria and submits for approval.

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

1 years of work experience; Healthcare

Critical Skills

  • 2 or more years of customer service experience in healthcare industry.

  • 2 years knowledge of insurance benefits which includes, deductibles, co-insurance, out-of-pocket, plan exclusions and prior authorization requirements.

  • Demonstrates excellent internal/external customer service.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Must demonstrate ability to work well in a team dynamic as well as independently.

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of reimbursement practices.

  • Must demonstrate adaptability to handle changing priorities in a high volume, fast-paced work environment.

  • Must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and ensure attention to detail at all times.

  • Excellent personal computing skills and a working knowledge of MS Office software

  • Bilingual preferred but not required

Additional Knowledge & Skills

Overall good knowledge of PAR responsibilities. Good understanding of the billing process and little supervision needed.

High School Diploma or equivalent work experience
