Job Summary

Reporting to the VP Operational Excellence, the Director plays a senior role in overseeing the development and execution of all Operation Excellence programs and initiatives.

The role entails the leadership and development of a team of process experts, analysts and facilities support, playing a key role in attaining and surpassing team objectives, which include improving quality, productivity, labor, and cost saving efficiencies.

The Director continuously seeks ways to mobilise his/her team and partnering with other key players in seeking and implementing innovative methods for supporting the Operational Excellence strategy.

Specific Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Establish and promote a culture of Operational Excellence across the distribution organization, putting forth recommendations and implementing processes consistent with best practices.

  • Ensure that principles are adopted and Operational Excellence objectives are incorporated into the organization’s strategic plan and goals.

  • Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of strategic national initiatives and projects.

  • Lead the coordination and standardization of distribution functions in areas of order processing, warehouse management and inventory management to maximize customer order fill expectations.

  • Responsible for establishing and measuring robust KPIs tied to overall organizational operational improvement goals and ensuring their standardization across the network.

  • Establish & recommend policies and procedures that ensure the effective integration of distribution requirements in a multiple plant/multiple channel/one company network environment.

  • Accountable for ensuring that business continuity plans are established and followed.

  • Works across the various functional areas to drive projects and initiatives.

  • Liaises with the leadership team for key business topics, provides timely and value-added insights, operational direction and updates on all operational excellence initiatives.

  • Owns and monitors alignment of National SOPs across all DCs.

Process Improvement

  • Responsible for identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives for processes, equipment functionality, costing, waste, productivity and capacity.

  • Continuously improve the efficiency of the operation; including fill rates, on time deliveries, accuracy, productivity, product integrity and cost.

Relationship Management

  • Positively influence all levels of management across the organization to ensure that process improvement activities receive the necessary support and are resourced adequately to ensure the proper and timely implementation of solutions.

  • Establishes collaborative partnerships with other members of the leadership team to better understand their needs and align on future requirements, ranging from standardization of processes, leveraging market practices to the optimization of DC flow.

  • Work up-stream with sales, customer service, transportation, regulatory & procurement on joint cost improvement efforts.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, develop and promote staff members to help raise level of competence and business acumen.

  • Ensure OE team members receive the proper training and guidance to be able to effectively coach, train and mentor change agents within the business to achieve operational excellence goals and objectives.

  • Sets and carries out objectives, and fosters a culture of performance, continuous improvement and collaboration with Management, peers, and subordinates.


  • Maintains relevant business knowledge and stays abreast of market and industry trends and conditions.

  • Acts as a McKesson ambassador of corporate values.

Key Requirements

Working Experience

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in continuous process improvement, the majority (7 years) in a management supervisory role.

  • Retail/Wholesale experience is considered an asset.


  • University degree in Business, Engineering or other related field of study.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification is considered an asset.

  • Excellent partnering skills and proven ability to collaborate with various levels of management and employees.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively.

  • Perfectly bilingual, both written and spoken.

  • Knowledge of process and project management

  • Strategic and analytical thinking, strong capability of project management and problem solving skills, sound judgment and a willingness to resolve issues and problems in a timely manner

  • Solid experience working with senior management.

  • Ability to work as part of multi-functional teams.
