The Senior Director, Quality will act as the senior representative for McKesson Canada on all matters relating to quality issues within each of our businesses including Specialty, Inviva, Sivem, McKesson Distribution Solutions and Pharma Distribution and any other businesses as may be added from time to time (the “Businesses”). The person in this role will:
Develop and ensure the execution of the strategies and plans required to support best-in-class quality practices and processes in collaboration with Operations;
Act as the senior representative with government agencies that regulate the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical products, both provincial and federal, as well as senior interface between McKesson Canada and other McKesson Corporation business units (“BU”s) as regards regulatory and operational compliance;
Advise McKesson senior management on all issues relating to quality and operational regulatory issues;
Build and maintain key relationships across the BU’s and strategically influence business partners;
Collaborate and consult effectively with other corporate functions on a national basis as well as lead cross-functional initiatives;
Be responsible for managing the performance and development of five (5) direct reports who manage a team of approximately 80 employees located throughout Canada;
Be a strong proponent of McKesson’s ILEAD and ICARE principles.
Section A – Specific Responsibilities
Develop the strategies and plans required to implement a McKesson Canada Quality structure including interfacing with McKesson Corporation’s global quality program where appropriate;
Ensure effective quality systems, procedures and administrative controls are established, followedand maintained for McKesson’s operations in accordance with GMP and related regulations;
Ensure resources are available to build and maintain robust quality systems;
Establish or direct the establishment of the policies, budgets, plans, tactics, practices and procedures necessary to achieve quality objectives;
Lead regular business reviews with Senior Operational Leadership Team (SOLT) and quarterly reviews of quality and governance issues with Senior Management;
Oversee quality logistics for products imported and distributed through McKesson Canada;
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal business partners in collaboration with McKesson Canada Senior Management, Internal Audit and the McKesson Global Sourcing Team as needed;
Work with local management to manage, track and report CAPAs on a monthly basis;
Update management regularly on outcome of all audits and CAPAs;
Provide a platform on matters relating to investigations, and ensure that all investigations are documented within the framework of the investigations system;
Manage and direct the activities and performance of quality employees, including pharmacovigilance, located in various provinces throughout Canada;
Supervise audit activities and ensure remediation plans are implemented where appropriate.
Develop strategies to address the company’s top operational regulatory risks and propose plans to mitigate business risks;
Possess a deep understanding of the regulations applicable to the Canadian health care industry and the distribution of pharmaceutical products such as GMP and stay abreast of industry and legislative developments;
Section B – Position Requirements
Bachelor degree in Science or related area
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical or a related industry, particularly in the areas of quality, compliance and/or regulatory affairs, combined with equivalent experience in Management and leading teams in a change environment
Mature, professional and pragmatic, with sound decision-making skills, capable of functioning effectively in a complex regulatory environment
Strong people leader with ability to influence and build a strong Quality team
Strong team player with good interpersonal and leadership skills
Strong analytical and strategic mindset, organized and autonomous
Effective communication skills in French and English
Bilingual (written and oral)
Available for domestic travel
Knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) is considered an asset
