Job summary

The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Senior Financial Analyst will interact with the head of senior management and the Controller, which requires strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and spoken.

Section A – Specific responsibilities

  1. Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.

  2. Ensure accurate and timely month, quarter and year ends.

  3. Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.

  4. Assist the Controller with the daily tasks.

  5. Support budget and forecast activities.

  6. Work with the other department heads to support the department’s overall goals and objectives.

  7. Oversee and analyze the department to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  8. Respond to all enquiries from the Controller and other finance staff and managers regarding financial results, requests for special reports and otherwise.

  9. Work with the Controller to ensure an accurate and timely year-end audit.

  10. Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.

  11. Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the department’s workflow.

  12. Provide training to existing and new staff, as needed.

  13. Work with each direct report to set goals and objectives for each year; monitor and advise staff members on their progress to improve their professional development.

  14. Provide support to the Controller for special projects and the improvement of workflow processes.

  3. Maintain appropriate communication with all levels of the organization.

Section C – Job requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting; a professional designation or master’s degree is preferable

  2. Minimum 7 to 10 years of accounting and management experience, preferably in a global company

  3. Knowledge of SAP is an asset

  4. Proven achievements and the ability to maintain strong relationships with peers, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies

  5. Able to solve problems, make good decisions and use judgment to escalate issues with recommendations if needed

  6. Team player with good leadership and people skills

  7. Analytic, strategic, organized and autonomous

  8. Highly effective and persuasive communication skills
