Job Summary

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Logistics Planner coordinates,leads and influences inbound activities and projects into the Distribution Centers (DC) for all product classes in a specific region to ensure smooth flow of products and optimized inventory and service levels. Performing and leading business process analysis, identifying gaps and inefficiencies, and proposing solutions to help streamline the process is expected in this role. This role requires leading cross-functional work, including with Procurement staff, suppliers and Distribution Center (DC) Operations to effectively manage and support day-to-day operational activities by ensuring the timely and accurate receiving of purchase orders into the distribution centers.

Section A – Specific Responsibilities

Replenishment Support (40%)

  • Works cross-functionally with Buyer-Planners, DC Operations and suppliers to manage the seamless execution of inventory replenishment plans and supply plans for products in his/her region.

  • Responsible for addressing day-to-day procurement issues, including prioritization of inbound activities at the DC and coordination of product delivery.

  • Leads order management and supplier expediting activities, including tracking, monitoring and resolving order issues and exceptions, ensures adherence to schedule, balanced inbound volume and on-time delivery of products.

  • Oversees and develop processes with DC Operations for receiving and put-away prioritization, space challenges and appointments.

Inventory and Supply Planning (30%)

  • Plans, foresees and communicates upcoming risks and inventory and DC capacity issues via pro-active management of portfolio.

  • Collaborates closely with the Buyer-Planners and Demand Planners on demand fluctuations or any project impacting inbound DC material flow.

  • Develops tools and processes to mitigate back orders impact.

  • Works in partnership with DC Operations for inventory procurement impacts on the physical network and inventory/space optimization.

  • Works with Buyer Planners to optimize aging inventory and DC capacity on inventory overstocks and stock rebalancing.

Procurement Strategy Execution and Support (25%)

  • Coordinates with Buyer Planners the opportunity buys with DC Operations team.

  • Supports forward buy execution and analyzes return-on-capital implication.

  • Collaborates with Procurement, Operations and Account Management on larger scale supply chain projects.

Section B – General Responsibilities

Other (5%)

  • Maintains relevant business knowledge of product categories and stays abreast of market and industry trends and conditions.

  • Acts as a McKesson ambassador of corporate values.

Section C – Position Requirements

Working Experience

  • 5-8 years of experience in planning, inventory management and procurement, replenishment.

  • Retail/Wholesale/Life Sciences experience an asset.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or equivalent.

  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office products (Power Point, Excel, Word, Project and Visio).

  • Knowledge of process and project management.
