Current Need

Retirement Benefits Manager based in San Francisco will be responsible for the ongoing management and implementation of multiple employer plans, supporting the Director of Retirement Programs.

Position Description

  • Responsible for development and administration of the multiple-employer plan; Partner with vendor teams ensure compliance with non-discrimination testing and employer allocations and in accordance with IRS/ERISA regulations

  • Ensures programs are current with regard to trends, practices, regulations and costs; research and design efforts to recommend and develop innovative and leading edge programs while adhering to considerations of cost effectiveness, competitive marketplace, and strategic alignment with business objectives

  • Develop strategies to help employees understand and appreciate what the company provides as well as improve their retirement savings and readiness.

  • Lead M&A retirement activities in identifying and assessing risks of target plans and disposition thereof, forecasting integration costs and develop benefit plan comparisons between parent company and target.

  • Provides direction, support, and guidance to vendor partners and manages internal and external benefit relationships

  • Facilitate annual plan year audits and completion of Form 5500 filings

Minimum Requirements

2 years benefits experience

Critical Skills

  • 2 years’ experience in 401k administration

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Self-starter and the ability to take on new projects from conception to completion

  • Ability to consolidate data using Excel and/or Access databases

  • Demonstrated retirement knowledge

  • Ability to interact with all levels within organization

  • Knowledgeable of ERISA and IRS regulatory environment of retirement programs

  • Multiple employer allocations and non-discrimination testing

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with application of Payroll/HR systems and third-party administrator

  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as strategic and creative thinking and strong consultative skills

  • Collaborative and consensus building

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Presenting benefit information to groups of employees


4-year degree in business or related field or equivalent experience
