Current Need

McKesson’s well-regarded General Counsel Organization is seeking an experienced healthcare regulatory and transactional lawyer to support McKesson’s Specialty Provider Organization which includes physician practice management (The U.S. Oncology Network), clinical research site management (US Oncology Research) and the Unity and Onmark group purchasing organizations (GPOs).

The US Oncology Network is a collection of approximately 60 physician practices consisting of more than 1,400 cancer physicians including over 900 medical oncologists, 250 radiation oncologists, and over 200 surgeons who care for approximately 10% of the patients diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year. The Network is managed by a management team at McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical and Specialty Health, a division of McKesson corporation.

Most of the sites within the US Oncology Network participate in US Oncology Research. To date, over 70,000 patients have entered onto a clinical trial managed by US Oncology Research. Over the last dozen years, the program has participated in the registration studies that have anchored the approval of 59 unique agents.

McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical and Specialty Health has two leading national group purchasing organizations (GPOs) – Onmark and Unity. GPO Services provides its members access to a premier contract portfolio and to innovative business and clinical solutions to help members operate more efficiently and deliver cost-effective, high-quality patient care. The Onmark and Unity GPOs have more than 2,500 member practices representing over 4,500 physicians.

Position Description

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provides health care regulatory advice (AKS,Stark Law, FCA, CMS and state rules and regulations) related to arrangementswith physician practices and pharmaceutical manufacturers;

  • Provides legal advice related to governmenthealthcare program and private payer reimbursement requirements;

  • Works collaboratively with the Compliance,Revenue Cycle and Operations teams on audits, investigations and payor refunds;

  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates agreementsrelated to the practice management business;

  • Provides routine day-to-day legal support for McKesson’sgroup purchasing organizations, Unity and Onmark, including contract draftingand negotiation with pharmaceutical manufacturers;

  • Manages a team of legal professionals responsiblefor supporting U.S. Oncology Research, a clinical research site managementorganization, and provides guidance on legal issues related to clinical trials;

  • Frequent interactions with other internalstakeholders across functional groups.

Minimum Requirements

10 years of corporate law experience

Critical Skills

  • Law firm experience combined with in-houseexperience, preferred

  • Excellent commercial contract drafting andnegotiation skills

  • Knowledge of payer, regulatory, compliance,privacy and licensure issues at the federal and state level relative to physicianpractices

  • Outstanding verbal and written communicationskills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with anability to provide sound, clear legal advice to all levels within the company,including senior business executives

  • Ability to work closely with, facilitateinteractions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (includingrepresentatives from other areas of the General Counsel Organization regulatoryand compliance professionals, sales professionals and operations managers).

  • Notable business acumen dealing with riskmanagement and organizational savvy

  • Must be a team player who can develop strongworking relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and othermembers of the legal team.

  • Proven management experience, and a strongdesire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals

Education

Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials. Member of a jurisdiction is required.
